NIT-Karnataka to technically evaluate Mangaluru Smart City Limited project

Mangalore Smart City will have a quality check of the projects done under the Smart City Mission by National Institute of Technology-Karnataka. It was decided in a meeting of Mangaluru Smart City Implementation and Review committee. The Minister-in-charge has informed that once the projects are completed under Mangaluru Smart City Mission it will be handed over to Mangaluru City corporation.NIT-K would be scrutinising the project technically for quality adherence. Since there has been a rise in complaints regarding the projects done under the mission, the quality check is being done to reduce that.

NIT-K and City corporation would be doing the quality check simultaneously before handing the project to corporation. The pace of the project completion has gone down after the Minister-in-charge expressed dissent over it, to which Mohammad Nazir, Mangaluru Smart City CEO said that the project from AB Shetty Circle to Clock tower will be completed next month. The minister has encouraged citizen participation to ensure that the projects that are done under MSCL have the interest of the public. He has also asked project information to be displayed so that people are aware of the development that happens in the city.

There has also been a lack of coordination between the city corporation and MSCL. People are not happy with the design of bus shelters built under the mission and also not satisfied with the cost incurred on each shelter. The quality check would be a constructive step in the direction to make the mission more effective.
