NewSpace India working towards applications of space tech for Ease of Living

Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Space informed in the Rajya Sabha that NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), a PSU set up by ISRO, is working towards developing application of space technology for enhancing ease of living. He said that there have been space programmes in the Southern states for the same which are being extended across the country now. He said, “It was in 2019 The NewSpace India Ltd, a PSU has come into being. Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) had setup NewSpace India Limited to commercially exploit research and development work of the space agency, co-produce Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) and launch satellites through Small Satellite Launch Vehicles (SSLVs). 

The participation of these agencies along with the industry is actually guided by strict regulations.”There was a two-day extensive brainstorming exercise recently in which scientists from the Department of Space interacted separately with each of the ministries and each of the departments in the Centre in order to workout wherein the space technology could come in to provide ease of living.

The applications of space technology are already extensively being used  in the housing projects including the smart city projects, in laying down railway tracks and in manning of railway crossings. Among these applications, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) and the soil health card being another examples of such successful experiment.

Jitendra Singh said that gradually space technology will be introduced in various sectors with more and enhanced applications for ease of living,”That objective is sacrosanct to us.” 

NSIL will involve small satellite technology transfer to industry, manufacture of Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV). It is a product which is being developed by ISRO in collaboration with the private sector and production of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) through the Indian industry.
