In order to achieve to become a Green & Functionally Integrated Capital City, Nava Raipur Atal Nagar aims to provide ample opportunities before hand to implement projects in a comprehensive way to avoid problems of Urban Development including those of Urban Transport. Being a satellite town to the city of Raipur at a distance of 24 kms, supporting population for the transit is also developing with the predominant number of employees commuting from Raipur and neighboring towns to Nava Raipur and vice-versa during peak hours. As per observations, it is expected that a more or less uniformly distributed commute will occur in the near future when the majority of office goers, both from government and private sector, would shift to Nava Raipur. 

To develop an urban transport facility in accordance with the needs of a growing city, BRT-Lite Project was planned. The project first identified public transport corridors between Raipur and Nava Raipur, to select two BRT Corridors, construction of pickup points, BRT shelters, bus depot, workshop and ITS control centre at Raipur and Nava Raipur. The Intelligent Tracking System (ITS) in BRT includes Automatic Vehicle Location, Automatic Fare Collection, CCTV Surveillance and Depot Management Subsystems. Apart from BRT Corridors, the project includes cycle tracks and pedestrian walkways in Nava Raipur. The project is a result of studying the Transit Oriented Development in Nava Raipur and thereby, preparation of Regional Mobility Plan for Greater Raipur Region comprising of Nava Raipur, Raipur, Bhilai-Durg urban agglomerations.

The BRT Corridors are; 

  1. Corridor 1: Raipur Railway Station – NH 53 – Capitol Complex Nava Raipur (24.70 km)
  2. Corridor 2: Along the Main East-West Axis of Nava Raipur Connecting NH 53 & NH 30 (17.80 km) 
  3. Corridor 3: Intra-city bus corridor 17.8 kms.

The Corridors are equipped with Pick- up points, Median Bus Shelters, Kerb-Side Bus Shelter, Bus Depot, Workshop, Control Centre, AC Standard BRT Buses, Pedestrian Walkways, Cycle Tracks and Table Top Crossings. The project conceptualized follows The National Ambient Air Quality Standards for maintaining the air quality, thereby reducing air pollution. Noise pollution will be kept in control through appropriate measures and by using BS-IV compliant buses. Also, the buses beig used for BRTS can be used as feeder buses too, owing to its design features. The project has RFID assisted docking facilities in the median shelters. The crossing and pathways are specially designed keeping in mind to provide good access to differently abled people. The best part is that the project can be replicated to the other parts of the city as well as other cities across the state which are yet to be developed.
