Kozhikode city corporation to have a new disaster management plan


A comprehensive disaster management plan on various wards, panchayats, municipalities will be submitted to the district disaster management authority under Kozhikode city corporation. Nodal officers of various departments are already evaluating the local requirements and needs related to the proposals submitted.

Special attention will be given to remote areas that face frequent landslides and ecological disasters while preparing the proposals for those areas of the respective local bodies. The Revenue Department will make try to make sure that the new disaster management plan will take into account all the services required for families settled in the remote areas of the district.

The planning bodies are also inviting the support of voluntary organisations that will bring out a directory of various emergency contacts that would be publicly made available to residents of Kozhikode and other institutions in that area.

The expert trainees from the National Disaster Response Force will also be sought to train volunteers for disaster management training. According to the Revenue department officials, the participation of schools, colleges and educational colleges will be ensured.

The government also is looking to bring in a new helpline number to coordinate the activities of different rescue squads, creating a mobile application to seek help or monitor the status of various rescue operations, developing temporary shelters for rehabilitation and formation of a new volunteer group to coordinate relief camps.
