IRCTC has a new take on heritage, it is giving people the chance to take a ride and experience the history. The rider is being offered in steam trains and can be experienced at the nominal fare of ₹10.

Steam Trains were stopped long ago. One of those time-tabled steam-hauled trains throughout the year has now been started again from Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar. The train is being hauled by WP7200 AZAD, a Broad Gauge 1947 make, steam engine, with its locomotive been restored to its pristine beauty and mechanical engineering perfections. Pertinently, Its revival was carried out at Heritage Steam Shed, Rewari and DEMU-Shed, Shakurbasti. The IRCTC Tourism website mentions that the one-way train journey between Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar costs ₹10 per person.

The tour itinerary includes the train routes from a)Garhi Harsaru and Farukhnagar and b)Farukhnagar and Garhi Harsaru.

Railways efforts are worth applauding as last year they put into service, the renovated heritage steam engine WP 7200, also called Azad to bring back the magic of steam-hauled trains. The engine hit the tracks in November 2018 for hauling India’s oldest iconic luxury tourist train, the Palace on Wheels on a trip from Delhi Safdarjung station to Patel Nagar station. Railway board chairman, Ashwani Lohani flagged off the train.
