400 crore underground drainage system chalked out for Hubballi Dharwad region under AMRUT city mission

A 400 crore rupees underground drainage system has been prepared under the Atal Mission for Urban Rejuvenation and Transformation in the Hubballi Dharwad system. This is being done in order to prevent flooding and spilling over of waste-water on the street.Mr.Shettar the minister for Large and medium scale industries mentioned that the proposal was submitted to the CM of Karnataka for consideration in the Urban Development department. This is all being to address the flooding problem in the region. An inspection of Javali Garden, Akshay Colony and other areas was carried out to understand the gravity of the situation.

The problems that were highlighted were that rainwater from neighbouring residential layouts at higher altitudes was entering Akshay Colony that was at a comparatively lower altitude, low capacity pipelines at Javali garden and wrong calculation of rainwater flow. The municipal corporation and urban development authorities have been asked to take corrective measures to improve the situation in the region.

The ministers also noticed that roads had been dug up at several places which worsened the flooding problem.
