Indian Railways & Maruti Suzuki tie up to transport cars on train



Western Railways (WR) has tied up with Indias auto giant -Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) to transport its cars from their plant in Gujarat to other parts of the country.

The move is likely to benefit the auto giants new manufacturing unit at Becharji station in Patan district of the state, said Ravinder Bhaskar chief spokesperson of WR.

The unit at Detroj manufactures 2.5 lakh cars per annum and MSIL is looking at increasing its production capacity. Soon, WR will also provide logistics solution for the export of vehicle. This maiden consignment took about four hours to load. The first such train, called a rake in Railway’ss parlance, left with 125 Maruti Suzuki cars in 25 coaches from Detroj for Nidvanda in Bengaluru division of South-Western Railways.

For the operation from Detroj, MSIL and WR have developed a stacking area of 8000 sq.meters with a capacity to stack for handling up to two NMG rakes at an annual lease of INR 4 lakhs.A?

This initiative is a great beginning for the development of industry and Gujarat state for making it a hub of car production in near future, Bhaskar announced.
