In its first, Mumbai becomes the first Indian city that will join the World Cities Culture Forum, the leading collaborative network of world cities that share a belief in the importance of culture for creating thriving metropolitan environments.

In a meeting The Mayor of London met Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis, to promote London as open and welcoming to the exchange of ideas, visitors, talent, creativity and business from Mumbai.

Sadiq Khan, The Mayor of London, said, Culture helps create thriving urban centres, contributes to a citys success and underpins sustainable urban development. Mumbai has fantastic cultural and creative industries – from the 900 films made a year in Bollywood to LakmA? Fashion Weeks, from its museums to its temples.

Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, said, We are pleased to be joining the Mayor of Londons World Cities Culture Forum during the UK-India Year of Culture. Mumbai and London are global cities attracting the best creative talent from around the world and have the culture at the heart of their plans to improve peoples lives and promote their cities on the global stage.

The Forum has just launched a new Leadership Exchange Programme, funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and Google Arts & Culture. It is the first-ever exchange designed for cities to share ideas to solve common challenges across the globe.
