European Commission to set up Indias first heritage lab in Ahmedabad

European Commission has planned to set up Indias first Cultural Heritage and Management Venture Lab in Ahmedabad which is going to develop tactics to incorporate heritage resources. It would preserve and promote local artisans and heritage resource-persons, and develop tourism.

It is for the first time that the commission through the Spanish body Casa de la India has decided to invest in a heritage city in India. Director of Casa de la India Guillermo Rodriguez Martin said, “It is time for Amdavadis to come together to understand, learn and practice heritage management professionally in order to boost value.”

The lab would be set up by Ahmedabad University’s Centre for Heritage Management and will include officials from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, City Heritage Centre and Urban Management Center.
