High-powered committee

To clear the bottlenecks from 15 km East-West metro corridor project in Kolkata which will connect Salt Lake with Howrah, a new high-powered committee, headed by Chief Secretary Sanjay Mitra has been set up recently by the Government of West Bengal.

The underground tunneling work which could not be started as Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) could not take a final decision on their alignment will now be taken into consideration as the committee will look afresh into the issue to help in advancing the project work, especially on the Howrah end.

This Rs 4, 874-crore project is to be built on the loan provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
