Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) has collaborated with Waste Ventures India Ltd, a social enterprise in waste management, to launch a project in Hyderabad which will function in recycling plastic waste and enable a circular economy.
Shukla Wassan, Executive Director, Legal and Corporate Affairs, HCCB, while flagging off the collection vehicles at the waste segregation facility of Waste Ventures stated, “We are aligned with the global theme of World Environment Day, Beat Plastic Pollution, and we wish to combat the challenges surfacing from single-use plastic.”
Through this project, HCCB, in liaison with Waste Ventures, aims to collect plastic waste in Hyderabad through a dedicated fleet of collection vehicles. An estimated 4-5 tonne of plastic is likely to be collected every day. The collected plastic will be converted into useful products like T-shirts, fabrics, backpacks, etc. to close the loop and create a circular economy on plastic.
“Our long-term vision is to leverage the scale and resources of our entire system to ensure that all our packaging material is reused and recycled to minimise its environmental impact,” Wassan added.
Plans are afoot to initiate similar programmes across 50 major cities in India over the next two years.
