A mobile app known as ‘Highway Saathi’ has been launched for commuters on Greater Noida-Agra expressway that would guide them through their journey. The app, which is aimed at enhancing safe and secure travel, will alert commuters about traffic snarls, accidents and public amenities and will send SOS alerts in case of an emergency reducing response time for rescue.
The application was unveiled by Arunvir Singh, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) in the presence of officials from Jaypee group, the e-way operator.
As per officials, the android app is meant for getting immediate help to commuters in emergency situations. “This app will help in enhancing the safety of the e-way,” Singh said. “The operator also needs to create awareness about the app so that maximum commuters use it while driving along the e-way,” he said. “To further make the app effective, we have also directed the operator to create voice alerts warning the driver that the speed limit has been crossed. This will ensure a reduction in accidents, which are largely because of over-speeding,” he added.
The mobile application, which can be downloaded from Google play store, will integrate the digital map of the Greater Noida-Agra Expressway and allow users to search for wayside amenities such as petrol pumps, hospitals and food courts in the vicinity. Voice-based option for queries is also available in the app.
Officials explained that with the app, users will be able to upload images of an accident or an emergency that will be shared with the e-way control room, e-way patrol, the concessionaire and other app users in the vicinity. The control room staff will also acknowledge the incident report. This will ensure that people using the e-way are aware of an emerging situation and real-time assistance will be made available to commuters in the quickest possible time.
