Country Representative for India, UN-Habitat

I think it’s a very good and interesting gathering. What I also like is the diversity in participation – ULBs, state, central government, private sectors and NGOs. This is fully relevant with all the challenges that India is facing vis-a-vis the urbanisation process. It makes sense to gather all the stakeholders in order that they could discuss and share their thought on the way they are foreseeing the new urban agenda for India and could work for solutions together. Having a theme of Sustainable Habitat and Smart Cities makes sense since nowadays, more than ever we are surrounded by new information and technologies which have to be put to good use for the prosperity of the cities. New technology is more of a means than the aim for the smart cities. The mission should have a broader perspective and should be thinking about measures right at the planning stage.
