PMC divert funds for cleaning purposes
Pune Municipal Corporations general body has diverted about Rs10 crore from the budget allocated to the proposed bicycle plan for carrying out cleaning work in the wards.
“The civic cycle project is very important. Its money should not have been diverted. The civic administration should have opposed the diversion stressing that promotion of cycles was important for sustainable transport in the city,” said Sujit Patwardhan of Parisar organization.
The officials stated that nearly 50 proposals had reached the civic body regarding the fund’s diversion. The funds will be handed over to the ward offices for carrying out solid waste management work.
The standing committee approved the diversion of funds last week. According to the civic standing committee chief, the diversion won’t hurt the project. “The money being taken off is needed at the later stages of the bicycle project. It can be made available then,” said Murlidhar Mohol, the chairman of the standing committee.
