Raipur introduces roof top garden for mission smart city
Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) has planned to introduce the concept of rooftop gardens under the Smart City Mission plans.
Raipur as a ‘Smart City’ will comprise a total of 250 acres of green field and would also be a ‘Low Carbon Area’ with promotion of a host of eco-friendly vehicles.
The city would have rooftop solar panels to generate power, electric vehicles, e-rickshaws and gardens on roofs in most buildings and houses.
The Chhattisgarh Government has formed a special purpose vehicle (SPV), Raipur Smart City Limited (RSCL) to plan, design, implement, coordinate and monitor the smart city projects in Raipur.
In lieu of the events, Chief Minister Raman Singh also accorded in-principle approval for formation of a separate ‘Tree Plantation Forest Circle’ under Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) for ensuring organised plantation work.
Singh stated that Naya Raipur is a top priority as it covers an area of 237 square kilometres and he envisions Raipur as a “Green City.”
Notably, to protect the area from negative impacts of climate change, the government had also initiated plantation of trees in all river beds and roads which will not only beautify the roads by also benefit the environment.
Previously, Singh urged industrial organisations have the social responsibility of making the environment pollution free.
The Chief Minister had asked senior officers of Forest Department to take the ‘Green Chhattisgarh Campaign’ at a priority basis and to ensure better care of saplings to be planted under the campaign.
The campaign also aims to put Chattisgarh among top Indian states. It is also revealed that this initiative has potential to create employment opportunities for people who live below the poverty level.
