Union Housing Minister Venkaiah Naidu recently announced that the government is focusing on 15 states and union territories (UTs) to meet the Housing for All target by 2019.

The states under focus are Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura, along with the UTs of Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu and Puducherry.

Naidu said, “These states and UTs have been asked to submit affordable housing proposals as per the demand survey by the end of this year so that the construction could be completed in the next two years. Other states have been asked to submit proposals by 2018 so that construction could be completed by the stipulated timeline.”

He was speaking at a conference held in Delhi to discuss the progress of the Housing for All mission.

The government had also asked states and UTs to undertake fresh demand survey for affordable housing, and the process is close to completion.

“We would be able to make public the number of houses to be built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban) soon thereafter,” the minister added.
